Comvita's experience: connecting travellers to nature at Auckland Airport

Designed by Blur the Lines

Comvita is the global leading Mānuka honey producer in New Zealand and wanted to connect international travellers to their unique brand story with an experience at Auckland International Airport Departures Duty Free.

The Aelia Duty Free store is open 24 hours a day and often feels overwhelming due to the sea of branded environments on offer. The space follows a formulaic design approach which we chose to challenge in order to disrupt the status quo and provide travellers with a moment of calm. Our idea was to create a multi sensory hive to connect to the brands powerful story of working in harmony with bees and nature for the past 50 years.

The Comvita 14sqm organic formed store in store space, which opened in December 2023, is finished in warm honey tones and breaks from tradition with a unique hive like art installation ceiling feature acting as a beacon to cut through the surrounding visual clutter. The space was designed to be memorable and connect people to the brand through experience. Over 70% of the design is dedicated to interactive discovery which compliments the shoppable product display zone.

Product sales have been outperforming budget expectations since launch which is testament to the success of this experience led design approach.
